How did you get your auto/home insurance quotes?

You can get quotes from online from multiple companies, but the quote being quote, it is not the actual price/premium. I don’t want to get a low quote that is below what I’m currently paying for my auto/home insurance, and then be surprised with the actual premium after I sign up with another insurance company. Is there a way to avoid or minimizing the chance to get into this kind of situation?

Please share you wisdom and your (good and bad) experiences.
I’m asking because the policy underwriting that determines the actual price happens after you buy….

  1. I call a few local agents for quotes.

    Shopping online, as you’ve realized, puts all your personal information out on the web, and doesn’t give you accurate quotes.

    This flat out won’t happen, when you call 3 – 5 agents in your city.

    I used the phone and I was charged exactly what I was quoted, not a penny more or less.
